Another weekend, another loss for the Bulls who had started their season so brightly under John Mitchell. Since winning their opening fixture, it has been tough going and while the new coach has pleaded patience, he must be feeling just a touch frustrated.

Was it poor discipline or was it simply that the Chiefs’ character is so relentless that they refuse to give up?

Maybe it was a mix of both. The Bulls controlled much of their Super Rugby clash against the Chiefs on Friday, but let slip a lead they held for much of the match.

Having led 14-28 at the break, the visitors would have fancied their chances, but it wasn’t to be.

After Damian McKenzie put the hosts ahead for the first time, the Bulls came undone just a bit. A yellow card for Conraad van Vuuren with just over ten minutes left really put the visitors on the back foot.

Despite some valiant defensive efforts in the dying minutes, the Bulls just couldn’t break the dogged Chiefs and slipped to their third loss on the trot.
