It’s been reported for quite some time that Kaizer Chiefs had set their sights on signing Cape Town Spurs’ gifted central defender Rushwin Dortley ahead of next season.

Amakhosi reportedly began formal talks with the Cape club, with one source suggesting that both parties were keen to conclude a deal for the 20-year-old before discussions were put on hold as interest from Europe emerged.

The player’s representative, Paul Mitchell, has now confirmed to Soccer Laduma that the player will indeed be heading abroad.

“Yes, Rushwin is going to Europe, we are just in the process of organising the necessary visa and logistical arrangements, which are ongoing. It’s a fantastic opportunity for him, there has been local and other international interest in him from other countries, but this is the one we want and have decided to go forward.

“He’s a player with great talent, big physical frame, who reads the game well with a technical elegance to his 1.9 metre frame. I’m sure if he goes into Europe now, the world can be his oyster. Europe has always been at the forefront of our minds for Rushwin and with our experience in these markets, we know the trajectory we wish to try and follow with his career path, we will work hard to try and facilitate this for him and his club, who we all know are a great producer of talent,” Mitchell said.

Spurs Club CEO Alexis Efstathiou has also revealed that the youngster is set to make the move to an undisclosed European club.

“Yes, we’re busy with finalising the deal,” Efstathiou tells KickOff. “We’ve got someone in Europe at the moment who is trying to finalise everything.

“It seems like the deal is happening, but until the cheque is in the bank we can’t say it’s done. I can’t reveal the name of the team for now, but it’s in Europe.

“Let’s keep it like this for now and see what happens. But the deal is not good as done until the money is in the bank, that’s how it goes.”

Having already secured the services of Ashley Du Preez and Zitha Kwinika for the next three years earlier this month, Chiefs management and the technical team have been hard at work to try and acquire the right players to fit into the system that will hopefully bring DStv Premiership success in the coming season.

In addition, on Tuesday night it was confirmed that Kaizer Chiefs have signed Yusuf Maart on a three-year deal with a two-year option.
