CECAFA Disciplinary Committee has suspended Tanzania u20 women’s player Fumukazi Ally Nguruwe for “unsporting behavior.”

CECAFA Disciplinary Committee has suspended Tanzania u20 women’s player Fumukazi Ally Nguruwe for “unsporting behavior.”

This follows Nguruwe’s physical attack on an assistant during a Cecafa Women U20 championship match between Tanzania and Ethiopia in Njeru

How the attack from Nguruwe occurred

The attack from Nguruwe and her Tanzanian teammates occurred, when the side were disallowed a goal that would’ve proven to be the equaliser against the Ethiopians. Even on review, however, it was proven that the decision taken by the officials was indeed the correct call. That, however, didn’t stop Nguruwe and her teammates from venting their frustrations physically.

Nguruwe was eventually sent off by the referee for pushing the assistant referee, earning the Tanzanian player a three match suspension. 

CECAFA’s statement on the matter

CECAFA would then later release a statement about Nguruwe’s incident, conforming that the necessary processes had been undertaken before confirming the ban of the player would be three matches.

“After assessing the match commissioner and referees’ report, and display of video evidence, the committee observed that during the match between Tanzania and Ethiopia on November 3rd at Njeru, Nguruwe confronted the referee and grabbed the flag from the 1st assistant referee.

“CECAFA suspended Nguruwe for three matches organised by CECAFA.” Read the statement.

More members of the Tanzanian side punished

That is not where it ended for the Tanzanian’s however as their kit manager Esther Fred Chabruma was also handed a one match ban in the tournament due to her involvement in the incident. Furthermore, the team was handed down a USD500 fine for the indiscipline.

Two other players from the side, Emeliana Isaya Mbimu and Mwanamvua Seif Haruna, received a lenient charge and were warned for pushing the same assistant referee in the confrontation. The assistant referee’s flagging of that goal, denied what would’ve been a stoppage time equaliser for the Tanzanians and a crucial point gained with regards their CECAFA cause.
