Watch: This was Percy Tau’s last – and only – goal for Brighton

Well, at least Brighton fans will have something to remember Percy Tau by. Ahead of his multi-million rand move to Al-Ahly, the forward bagged this stunner.

Percy Tau, our Lion of Judah, roared last weekend, bagging his first goal for Brighton and Hove Albion. The tricky winger played a vital role in a pre-season friendly, when the Premier League outfit brushed Luton Town aside. However, rather than act as a springboard into the first team, this net-buster only accelerated a move elsewhere.

Percy Tau’s parting gift for Brighton fans

Tau has since sealed a transfer to Egyptian giants Al-Ahly, reuniting with his former boss at Mamelodi Sundowns, Pitso Mosimane. Nonetheless, his solitary strike for BHAFC is one worth revisiting…

The Seagulls won 3-1 at Kenilworth Road on 31 July, as Aaron Connolly and Enoch Mwepu also got on the scoresheet. However, Percy Tau stole the show with a breathtaking effort.

After collecting the ball in Luton’s half, the Bafana Bafana star showed Luton’s full-back a clean pair of heels, evading a desperate lunge from the defender in the process. Tau burst into the box, and a neat bit of trickery put the opposition centre-back on his arse – and the finish was certainly worthy of the run itself:

Lion of Judah set to roam elsewhere

The 27-year-old signed for Brighton three years ago. However, due to work permit issues, Percy Tau had to spend two campaigns out on loan. Successful spells at Anderlecht and Club Brugges put him back on the radar, and Tau made his Premier League debut earlier this year – but first-team appearances were hard to come by.

There were genuine hopes that this strike would be the first of many: Tau’s stop-start stint on the South Coast had been crying out for a moment of magic. However, Albion’s loss is certainly Al-Ahly’s gain. It’s just a real shame we never got to see moves like these in the English top-flight…
