Although Mosimane and his staff celebrated the occasion like one would expect them to, the Al Ahli players hardly did so at all.

Mosimane is currently the head coach of Saudi Arabian football giants Al Ahli, a side who had found themselves falling all the way to the country’s second division. The former Al Ahly coach then took up the job last year, as he was attracted by the prospect of bringing the club back to its former glories, and awakening a sleeping giant in the process.

Al Ahli had suffered the embarrassment of being relegated for the first time in their illustrious history, but Mosimane was able to secure the 1st division title with four games to spare, meaning their 0-0 draw to conclude the season last night did not really matter as it affected nothing at all.

Mosimane’s social media platform was inundated with warm messages from fans of the club, when he clinched their promotion, with some stating that they will never forget the impact he has made in such a short space of time, and that they will never forget what he has done for their club. But soon after, reports started to come out that Al Ahli could already be strangely considering a replace.

Speaking of strange, Al Ahli’s players were rather subdued in their celebrations of the title as well as promotion last night, something that even seemed to shock Mosimane himself, before speaking about those rather muted celebrations to the club’s television station.

Mosimane on the celebrations

“I don’t know what happened, I won 19 titles and celebrated all of them, I was surprised that the players did not celebrate the championship, but ask the management. I control things on the pitch but what’s off the pitch is out of my control.” Mosimane said.

Speaking recently, Al Ahli president Walid Moaz stated that “Pitso Mosimane performed well with the team, but the ambition is greater”. That hardly sounding like a vote of confidence in the man who just secured promotion for your club.

After lifting the trophy last night, Mosimane himself finally lifted the lid on his future at Al Ahli.

On his future

“I have a clause in my contract that stipulates the extension of the contract when the team gets promoted to the Saudi league, so why should I change it?,” Mosimane said to Al Ahli TV.

That seems to be fighting talk from Mosimane who seems to be determined to stay at Al Ahli next season, and if there is an agreement to do so already on paper, and the players and fans are happy with him, then it looks very likely that he will be the one leading them in the topflight next season too.
