Mason Greenwood has been indefinitely suspended by Manchester United following accusations that he horrifically abused and threatened his former girlfriend Harriet Robson.

Police are investigating after a “story” shared on Robson’s Instagram account showed bruises and cuts on her body with a caption stating: “To everyone who wants to know what Mason Greenwood actually does to me”.

The series of disturbing images clearly indicate a physical attack, while Robson also allegedly posted an audio clip seemingly implicating Greenwood in abusive and threatening behaviour.

Robson has since posted a message of thanks after a ‘difficult’ few days following the arrest of Greenwood, with the 18-year-old also confirming that she was taking a break from social media while the police investigation runs its course.

Man United released a statement confirming Greenwood’s suspension

The club released a statement immediately after the allegations surfaced, which read: “Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice.”

Greenwood, a United academy graduate, made his debut in 2019 and has since clocked up 129 appearances for the club, scoring 35 goals.

Man United had first released a statement to say: “We are aware of images and allegations circulating on social media. We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established. Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind.”

According to English publication, The Sun, the decision to suspend Greenwood has now divided some sections of the dressing room “on the basis that he is innocent until proven guilty”.

“One player in particular is furious about it. He feels that ditching Mason shows they are not together. If Mason is convicted of what he has been accused of, then clearly all the players will be horrified,” a source is reported to have revealed.

“But the police haven’t even decided if they have enough evidence to charge him or not yet. Some of those closest to him feel the course of justice should be allowed to run.

“But when some of the players started dumping him, they felt they had to as well. One of the players said it showed how the squad wasn’t together and showed that too many times they act as individuals.”

Players including Edinson Cavani, Cristiano Ronaldo and Victor Lindelof are said to have cut off the 20-year-old in the wake of his arrest on suspicion of rape and assault, and have unfollowed him on Instagram.
