Top SA referee to blow crucial Libya v Egypt 2022 Soccer World Cup qualifier

South African referee Victor Gomes will be in charge of the 2022 Soccer World Cup qualifier between Libya and Egypt on Monday, 11 October.

South African referee Victor Gomes will be in charge of the 2022 Soccer World Cup qualifier between Libya and Egypt on Monday, 11 October.

The match will be played at Benina Marturs Stadium in Benghazi, Libya and is scheduled to kick-off at 21:00 SA time.

The two sides, who were drawn in Group F, currently occupy the top two spots in the standings.

Libya are top having beaten both third-placed Gabon and bottom side Angola, while Egypt drew with Gabon and beat Angola.

Egypt axed coach Hossam El Badry after the Gabon stalemate and replaced his with former Bafana Bafana coach, Carlos Queiroz.

The back-to-back matches could prove crucial in determining which side progress to the next phase to establish the five countries which will represent Africa in Qatar in 2022.

Gomes will be assisted by his South African counterparts Zakhele Siwela and Athenkosi Ndongeni.

The fourth official for this North African derby will be Eugene Mdluli.

Nigeria’s Babagana Kachalla will be the Match Commissioner for this potentially highly charged encounter.
