Sundowns Ladies beat their Ghanaian counterparts Hasaacas Ladies 2-0 at the 30 June Stadium to make CAF Women’s Champions League history.

Sundowns Ladies emerged victorious

The Sundowns ladies were able to get themselves over the line through goals from Chuene Morifi and Andisiwe Mgcoyi who scored in one half apiece. Mgcoyi’s evening would prove to only get better from there, as not only did she lift the trophy with the team, but also receive the Player of the Match award afterwards.

It proved to be a tough midfield battle between the two teams with both Sundowns Ladies and Hasaacas Ladies robbing each other of clear cut chances as they continued to duel it out for ascendency in the middle of the park.

It took two goals to see off Hasaacas Ladies

It would eventually take the Sundowns Ladies 32 minutes before they broke the deadlock, through Morifi who was on hand to provide a close range finish to Mgcoyi superb assist from a cross. That goal seemed to calm the nerves down further for the Tshwane side, as Hasaacas Ladies themselves had began to threaten their box just before that. Mgcoyi then provided the final nail on the Ghanaian’s coffin on the 64th minute of the game.

It was not a perfect night for the Sundowns Ladies, however, as late on in the game substitute Regina Mogolola was red carded for what was deemed as a dangerous tackle on Faustina Aidoo. But that, would not be enough to change the headlines of this historic feat the ladies had achieved, becoming the maiden winners of the CAF Women’s Champions League.

Club continental double complete

With the Sundowns Ladies having won the CAF Women’s Champions League, they have successfully completely a double feat for the club, which has since seen both their women’s and men’s side win their respective competitions. The men’s side lifted the competition’s trophy under the tutelage of now Al Ahly coach Pitso Mosimane in 2016.
