It took 23 official games for Pitso Mosimane to taste defeat as head coach of Al Ahly.

And there’s nothing for the 56-year-old coach to be ashamed of.

Instead, he should be proud of himself and what he has achieved so far more so because the loss came at the hands of European champions Bayern Munich.

The Bundelisga giants edged out Mosimane’s Al Ahly 2-0 in the semi-finals of the Fifa Club World Cup on Monday.

Pitso Mosimane: Tasted my first loss, so sick!

But what are the numbers saying since Mosimane’s arrival in Egypt from Mamelodi Sundowns?

Under Mosimane’s tutelage, the Egyptian giants have recorded a whopping 18 wins from 23 games.

His team’s points-per-game is sitting at 2.52; his highest since becoming a professional coach.

He boasted 1.92 points-per-game at Mamelodi Sundowns but, of course, he had coached more games (332).

Mosimane has four draws and a single defeat in those 23 games which is impressive given the pressure that comes with coaching Al Ahly.

Furthermore, the African champions are free-scoring under Mosimane and are conceding less.

They have scored 46 goals in 23 games – and that’s two goals per game while they have conceded just 12.

Interestingly, Al Ahly have failed to score in just five of those 23 games, and this includes Monday’s loss to Bayern.

Lastly, the Red Devils have kept an impressive 14 clean sheets since they roped in the former Bafana Bafana mentor.

Now, up next for Mosimane and his Al Ahly charges is Palmeiras whom they face on Thursday afternoon in the 3rd/4th play-off match of the Club World Cup.
