Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly already put an offer on the table for Thabo Cele should he fail to earn a contract abroad, according to reports.

He is currently training with Radomiak

Cele was recently spotted training with his potential new team-mates at Polish topflight side, Radom Radomiak, where it is believed he is currently being assessed by the club management.

The tidy midfielder’s only record of football in South Africa was for the KZN Academy which then ultimately facilitated his move to Portugal. That therefore made Cele a relatively unknown name in South African football circles as he continued to work his way up in the lower ranks of Portuguese football where he has spent the entirety of his football career thus far.

When he left the KZN Academy, he joined third division side Real Sport Clube. After a year and 24 appearances for the club, Cele would then earn himself a shock move to giants Benfica. The European powerhouse would then immediately send him back on loan to Real, and after not being able to make the grade at Benfica, he joined second division side Cova da Piedade.

Cele impressed at the Olympics

At the end of the previous season, Cele left Piedade on a free and after his very impressive performances for South Africa’s under-23 side at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics he caught the eye of various teams around the world. One of those teams was evidently Radomiak, who are reportedly looking at him as one of two possible midfield options to sign ahead of the new season.

However, it now appears that Cele hasn’t just attracted the advances of clubs abroad, but those on South African shores too. While still at the Olympics, reports began to circulate locally about DStv Premiership sides Chiefs and Amazulu were interested in the players services. Follow up reports, however, were adamant that any such move would only materialise should the 24-year old fail to secure a deal abroad.

Now it has recently emerged through Polish publication wezslow.com that Chiefs had more than just interest in Cele but have put something on the table for him and his agent to study should he decide to come back home.

Reports Chiefs are waiting in the wings

“If Cele does not receive an employment in Radomiak, he will return to the top league in South Africa. In his home country, the contract is offered to him by Kaizer Chiefs, the country’s runner-up in the 2019/20 season. The midfielder is to start training with the team on Monday or Tuesday (Radomiak) ” read a passage from an article released by the publication on Sunday.

Chiefs have recently agreed to sell their own midfielder in highly-rated star Given Thibedi who has returned to Swallows FC on a permanent basis recently, could that move be interpreted as a sign that they’re freeing up space for a new midfielder? Additionally, Amakhosi have been rigorously linked to Supersport United midfield duo Sipho Mbule and Teboho Mokoena.

Will Cele make the grade in Poland? Or will reports prove to be true of him joining Chiefs instead?
