R77 million is what PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns stand to earn should they win the CAF Champions League this season.

There is good news already! Sundowns have secured a staggering R23 million for moving into the semi-finals. But they want the big prize – the CAF Champions League trophy and the R77 million cash prize from CAF.

CAF confirm huge increase in prize money

“Earlier this year, CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe announced a new prize money structure for TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup,” confirmed CAF.

“The announcement saw prize monies for the two competition increase by 40% – in line with Dr Motsepe’s commitment to make African football competitions globally competitive and self-sustaining. 

“In the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, the winner will get USD 4 000 000 – an increase from the USD 2 500 000. In the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup, the prize money for the winner has increased from USD 1,250,000 to USD 2 000 000.”

Marumo Gallants banked R14.5 million for making it to the final four of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Sundowns chasing final spot

Mamelodi Sundowns and Wydad Casablanca square off in the second leg of their CAF Champions League semi-final this afternoon.

The first leg ended in a goalless draw, in which the Brazilians ended the match with nine men. Both Neo Maema and Marcelo Allende received their marching orders in Rades.

It’s all to play for at Loftus Versfeld stadium this afternoon. The winner will face Al Ahly in this year’s CAF Champions League final!
