Soweto Derby: Another Golden chapter

Kaizer Chiefs tore up the form book to win another Soweto Derby on Saturday and joined the top four race at the same time.

Amakhosi have now won seven of their last seven league games against Orlando Pirates after Olisa Ndah scored an own goal.

The Buccaneers finished the game with 10 men after captain Innocent Maela was given his marching orders in the second half with 30 minutes to play.

In a major game with so much on the line, there was a brave a call by Amakhosi coach Arthur Zwane at the start of the game. The Chiefs mentor decided to continue to bench veteran goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune and start with Brandon Petersen in goal.

Despite the loss, Orlando Pirates remain third on the log with Kaizer Chiefs back in fifth. The Soweto Derby winners are now level on points with their bitter rivals with nine matches left in the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season.

The Buccaneers are away at Swallows on Friday, 3 March at 19:30, while Amakhosi’s next assignment is on the road against Richards Bay on Saturday, 4 March at 15:30.
