Watch the wholesome moment when Lionel Messi, widely considered the greatest footballer of all time, at long last hoists the prestigious World Cup trophy.

Argentina and France were deadlocked at 3-3 after the World Cup final had gone to extra-time, with Messi and Kylian Mbappe both taking centre stage for their respective teams. Messi scored twice for the South Americans and Mbappe bagged a hat-trick to keep France in the hunt for the title.

The game was ultimately decided on penalties, which Argentina dominating the shootout to win it 4-2 to be crowned world champions.

Commenting on the achievement in a post-match interview, Messi said: “This was the trophy I wanted all my life. This was my childhood dream.”
