Twitter reaction: Africa – and Shakira – unite behind Morocco!
Check out some of the reaction as Morocco made history as they became the first African team ever to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup.

What a day for Morocco, and really, what a day for Africa!
Coming up against Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal, Morocco continued to make history as Youssef En-Nesyri’s first-half header secured a historic win for the Africa team, who will play defending champions France or England for a place in the FIFA World Cup final.
The North Africa country become the first ever team from the continent to reach the World Cup last four.
Understandably, there was widespread reaction to the success of Morocco, as Africa united behind their continental counterparts. Not only this, but famous artist Shakira – who sang the theme song at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa – threw her congratulations and support behind Morocco.

Morocco’s semi-final will take place on Wednesday, 14 December at 21:00 (SA time).

The other semi-final – to be contested between Croatia and Argentina – will take place on Tuesday, 13 December, also at 21:00 (SA time).
On Friday night there was also a major shock at the tournament when Brazil were knocked out at the quarter-final stage for the second successive tournament after a defeat on penalties to Croatia.
It was a barely believable end result as the World Cup in Qatar once again dished up some serious surprises after a group stage filled with thrills and shock results.

Meanwhile, although it all ended in tears, Cristiano Ronaldo equalled the men’s international world record of 196 caps when he came on as a substitute for Portugal against Morocco.
Ronaldo, 37, who had started a second consecutive match on the bench, equalled the record set by Kuwait international Bader Al-Mutawa.
