World Cup 2022: Argentina beat Croatia to reach the final

Argentina are through to the 2022 FIFA World Cup final following a 3-0 win over Croatia in a match played at Lusail Stadium on Tuesday.

Argentina are through to the 2022 FIFA World Cup final following a 3-0 win over Croatia in a match played at Lusail Stadium on Tuesday.

Lionel Messi opened the scoring from the spot-kick before Julian Alvarez netted a brace, including a sensational first half goal.

In doing so, Argentina will be playing either France or Morocco who will battle it out for a spot in the final on Wednesday.

This will be Argentina’s sixth World Cup final, and their first since 2014 when the lost to Germany at the Brazil games.

It is worth noting that Messi assisted in both Alvarez’s goal, meaning he has now bagged four assists and five goals for Argentina at this Qatar World Cup.

HOW MANY WORLD CUP FINALS HAVE ARGENTINA REACHED?

As previously mentioned, this will be Argentina’s sixth World Cup final appearance – they will be aiming to win it only for the third time.

Argentina’s first final was in 1930 when they lost 4-2 to Uruguay.

They would then win their maiden World Cup in 1978 when they beat Netherlands in the final before winning it again in Mexico in 1986.

Argentina would fail to defend their crown at the 1990 World Cup in Italy as they lost 1-0 to their 1986 final opponents West Germany in the final.

The South American giants’ last World Cup final was in 2014 but they lost 1-0 to Germany.
