Each qualified team received $1.5 million before the tournament kicked off to cover preparation costs.

Each of the 16 teams eliminated after the group stages will leave with $9 million in prize money.

The eight nations to lose in the Round of 16 will earn $13 million each.

The four losing quarter-finalists will head home $17 million richer.

The loser of the third-place playoff will bank $25 million while the winner of the consolation final will earn $27 million.

The losing finalist will console themselves with $30 million while the overall winners will claim $42 million.

The total prize pool for the 2022 World Cup is $440 million – which is $40 million more than what was on offer at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
