The man who scored the famous opening goal of the 2010 Soccer World Cup, Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs legend Siphiwe Tshabalala, continues to bring smiles to the faces of South Africans 11 years later.

Now 37, speculation around his future has ramped up in recent days.

He has been club-less for over three months – but that could be destined to change soon.

Rumours have been rife regarding his retirement after he left Benni McCarthy’s AmaZulu earlier this year.

According to iDiskiTimes, Tshabalala issued this response at the Walter Sisulu Soccer Challenge launch on Thursday.

Siphiwe Tshabalala still a ‘current’ player

“I’m Siphiwe Tshabalala, I’m a current professional soccer player,” stated the Amakhosi’s legend – suggesting he regards himself as a ‘current’ player.

Meanwhile, Tshabalala took to his Instagram page to post a picture of him buying ‘amaskopas’ (popcorn) from a street vendor, thus supporting local business.

Tshabalala said simply: “It’s snack time ????”
