Pitso Mosimane won a host of titles during a stint at Egypt powerhouse Al Ahly between 2020 and 2022, but in the middle of last year he opted to step down as their manager.

After a brief break from coaching, he then opted to head to Saudi Arabian second tier side Al Ahli, where has has also enjoyed great success.

Despite Mosimane’s results speaking for itself, a strange series of comments have made by Al Ahly board member Khaled Mortagy, who reportedly suggested that Pitso’s successor at Al Ahly, Marcel Koller, is “much better” as a coach.

“As a fan, I see that Al Ahly has a very good team, and it has the best coach that came to Egypt since Manuel Jose, and his technical staff is exceptional,” he said, as per Kingfut. “Pitso Mosimane was different, but Koller is much better than him.

“Mosimane achieved titles, but Al Ahly’s performances dropped massively during his last period. There were no adequate training sessions with the South African coach. I don’t want to talk more about Mosimane’s negatives. He won us many trophies and we should respect him for that. He is (still) one of the best coaches,” Mortagy added as he slightly backtracked.

Mosimane won’t be fazed by such criticism

The 58-year-old has just walked away with a ‘coach of the month’ award as he continues to establish his legacy in Saudi football.

Mosimane has only suffered two defeats since joining the club. The team is currently second on the log, and still well-placed to push to finish at the summit of the standings.

Mosimane has now walked away with a top coach of the month award, and stated: “I am humbly receiving this award on behalf of the players, our supporters, fans, management, staff, board and vice President and President of the team and our families. It is our award and we all contributed.”

Meanwhile, in other news showing the humanity of Mosimane, he recently responded to a photo of former Sundowns player Khayelihle Shozi looking to be in a troubled state, while it’s also been revealed that he is willing to help out further once the 28-year-old has been found.

“He promised to do some things for him when he has been found and helped out of his current state,” said a sibling of Shozi recently.
