The South African Football Association (SAFA) in the Mopani region, Limpopo, has sent a strong message to their local teams that they will not tolerate any form of corruption within their structures.

This comes after the region recently banned no fewer than FOUR clubs for life following ‘unbelievable’ match results.

The incident first came to light on the Metro FM Sports show Sports Night Amplified with Andile Ncube.

On Saturday, 21 May 2022, Matiyasi FC, who were vying for promotion to the Provincial ABC Motsepe League, beat Nsami Mighty Birds 59-1.

Incredibly, 41 of the goals scored were own goals!

According to the FARPost website’s Ofhani Munyai, a player who was recorded to have been given a red card in the first half was recorded to have scored a goal in the second half!

In another match in the same region on the same day, Shivulani Dangerous Tigers, who are battling Matiyasi FC for promotion, beat Kototo Happy Boys 33-1.

‘Only’ seven own goals were recorded in that match.

The SAFA Mopani region, led by Vincent Ramphago, a SAFA NEC member and head of competitions in Limpopo, summoned all four clubs to a DC hearing late last month in Giyani.

They were all charged and found guilty of contravening SAFA rules.

FARPost reportedly has the verdict in its possession signed by the region’s DC Chairperson Joseph Mateta, released on 28 May 2022.

In the verdict, the region has banned all four clubs involved in the two matches from all football activities for breaching SAFA rules.

The officials implicated from both clubs have also been given five-year suspensions from all football activities within the Mopani region.
