Bafana Bafana are currently without a coach after parting ways with Molefi Ntseki after he failed to lead the team to next year’s delayed Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Cameroon when the team lost 2-0 in Sudan when all they required was a draw.

SAFA are in a rush to fill the vacancy with the national team due to kick off their qualifying campaign for the 2022 Soccer World Cup in early June against neighbours Zimbabwe.

Bafana Bafana have also been grouped with Ghana and Ethiopia with just the winner of the group going through to the next stage.

AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy and former Maritzburg United coach Eric Tinkler have been linked with the job.

According to the Kickoff website, a source close to SAFA confirmed that a shortlist will be finalised by Monday, 12 April before announcing the new head coach at the end of the month.

“A few names have been raised, including Benni McCarthy, Pitso Mosimane, Steve Komphela and even Neil Tovey. We are definitely going for a local coach,” said the official at SAFA House.

With SAFA looking local, that rules out former SA national coach, Portugal’s Carlos Queiroz, returning for a second stint at the helm.
