SAFA confirms venue for second Banyana Banyana v Brazil match

Banyana Banyana will host Brazil on Friday at the Orlando Stadium before the two sides face off in a second encounter three days later.

Banyana Banyana will host Brazil on Friday, 2 September at Orlando Stadium before the two sides face off in a second encounter three days later.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) has confirmed that the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban will host the second friendly between African champions Banyana Banyana and Copa América Femenina winners Brazil on Monday, 5 September.

SAFA also confirmed on Monday afternoon that both matches will kick off at 18:00.

Coach Desiree Ellis’ charges assembled for camp in Johannesburg on Monday as they prepare for their assignment against the South Americans, who won an eighth Copa América Femenina after they beat hosts Colombia 1-0 in July.

The matches are part of both sides’ preparations for the FIFA Women’s World Cup to be played in Australia and New Zealand next year.

BANYANA COACH DESIREE ELLIS HAPPY TO FACE ‘QUALITY OPPOSITION’

Banyana coach Desiree Ellis has expressed gratitude to SAFA for inviting Brazil to the country and says they could not have asked for better opposition.

“The preparations [for the World Cup] have started very well. We are very grateful to the South African Football Association (SAFA) and SASOL for getting us such quality opposition. You always want to test yourself against better opposition. We could not have asked for a better team,” the Banyana Banyana coach said on Saturday after announcing her squad.

“There is a rich history between South Africa and Brazil. We played against them before in Rio and Bafana Bafana have played against them before.”
