‘AGE IS JUST A NUMBER’ – MAHAMUTSA

“Honestly speaking, me I haven’t retired in football,” Mahamutsa said in an interview with Sports Night Amplified with Andile on Metro FM.

“Any opportunity that comes, if anyone says you know what come I need you to help me with this and this in my team, I’d go there.

“I’d go and play and I’d give my 100% to that team. Anything and whoever, I’m willing to help not because I don’t have money, I can manage myself.

“Some people who have seen me playing say, ‘no you can’t be 40, look at that young boy [who is] 20 something but you’re running past him’.

“Sometimes in life age is just a number, you know in South Africa, the main problem is once you reach 30 or 35 they say you’re done.

“I think that’s the biggest mistake in our country, once you reach certain age they say you’re out.”

‘I’M SO BLESSED’

Asked if he thought football was unkind to him taking into account what he offered during his peak, he sounded content, recalling what he has achieved.

“For me I’m so blessed for playing for such a big team Orlando Pirates and achieve so many trophies more than people that played for Pirates more than years that I was there and never maybe won a single trophy but it’s a blessing, nine trophies, 161 games, 23 goals as a defender,” he added.

“That’s why I am saying the game has provided me with everything that I have, if it wasn’t for the game of football, I wasn’t going to have what I have now.”
