SuperSport United boss Gavin Hunt has won the league four times and has given his best reason why he has been a success.

Hunt is readying his team to down Kaizer Chiefs and end their bid to finish third. It will secure SuperSport third spot at least although they could still pip Soweto giants Orlando Pirates for second place.

Hunt achieved without a rand spent

Hunt is enjoying his team’s lofty position given that he has not spent in the transfer market and the likes of Chiefs and Pirates continue to splash the cash.

You have to compare what we have spent with the other teams. We have not spent R1 on any player this season in comparison to how the opposition have spent,” Hunt said as reported by Goal.

The veteran manager also says that success is built on the spine of the team – something he has done well this term even if it’s with a bunch of players on loan.

Ricardo Goss, Tyson Hlatshwayo, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Grant Margeman have served SuperSport United well this term and have laid a good foundation.

“I always judge it like that and I think that is a better reflection of how my small squad has done this season. We played a lot of youngsters in the beginning and we got a few guys in (on loan) so it balanced out quite nicely because there were no funds to buy anybody and I knew that when I got here,” said Hunt.

“The key is to try and get the spine right then you have a good team. We have Ricardo Goss, Tyson Hlatshwayo, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Grant Margeman. Wherever I have been I have been successful when I get that right. But sometimes you can’t get the players who you want.”
