Zambian legend Christopher Katongo has opened up on the plight of current Kaizer Chiefs striker Lazarous Kambole.

Kambole joined the Glamour Boys from Zambian powerhouse Zesco United in 2019 with high expectations however, the striker is struggling to see game-time at Naturena.

Despite injuries to both first team strikers Samir Nurkovic and Leonardo Castro, Kambole has still been unable to break through into the Kaizer Chiefs starting line.

Kambole made just two brief cameo appearances for Stuart Baxter’s side so far this season, while he has found the back of the net on one occasion for Kaizer Chiefs.

Zambian questions Kaizer Chiefs over Kambole situation

Former Golden Arrows and Bidvest Wits striker Christopher Katongo has questioned the Amakhosi’s decision to sign Lazarous Kambole in the first place.

“The problem is that coaches just want to buy a striker or a player without checking if he will fit into his team. Or they buy the coach players, so maybe the first coach who brought Kambole did not know his strengths and weaknesses, so that he can fit into the team. What the coach knows is that Kambole scores goals,” Christopher Katongo told SoccerLaduma regarding the Kaizer Chiefs striker.

“He can save his career at Chiefs. We know what he can do, but as a player if it continues, you get frustrated and then you start to lose form. Players can struggle, but it’s how you take it that matters. It happened with Collins Mbesuma when he first got to Kaizer Chiefs, but the way he took it was very important.”

Lazarous Kambole has made 42 appearances for the Amakhosi since joining the club in 2019. He scored two goals and provided one further assist since making his debut in Kaizer Chiefs colours.
