Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Xola Mlambo has joined AmaZulu, following his departure from the Soweto giants.

The 28-year-old was part of the player clear-out at the Buccaneers, which saw a dozen players end their stay at the club.

Another ex-Buccaneer shows up at Usuthu

He is one of four ex-Buccaneers who have resurfaced at the KwaZulu-Natal outfit in the ongoing transfer window, joining former teammates Thembela Sikhakhane, Augustine Mulenga and Luvuyo Memela.

Following his unveiling on Monday afternoon, Mlambo said it was good to join a club that has so much ambition and drive.

“I’m honored that AmaZulu have trusted me to help them achieve the goals they have set out for the season and the coming seasons,” says Mlambo, according to the AmaZulu official website. “I’m also happy to see some familiar faces in this new-look AmaZulu squad. The combination of the players that have been here and those that have joined will take this club to greater heights as we look to win cups for Usuthu.”

Fresh start for Xola Mlambo

Mlambo joins AmaZulu after battling with game time during his final season at Orlando Pirates.

The former Bidvest Wits playmaker made just eight league appearances in the 2020/21 season, with just one of those coming in 2020.

He left the Buccaneers after three seasons, where he managed just 36 league matches, where he helped the club with four assists.

The player becomes the 11th new signing at Usuthu, who are now under new ownership, with businessman Sandile Zungu taking over from Patrick Sokhela.

AmaZulu’s next assignment is on Wednesday night, as they travel to Mbombela Stadium for a clash against TS Galaxy.
