Stellenbosch have announced themselves on the transfer market by beating Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns to a target.

Chiefs, Pirates and Sundowns were all interested in signing TS Galaxy winger Lehlohonolo Mojela who has signed for Stellenbosch.

Mojela a target for Chiefs, Pirates and Sundowbs

The first of the four sides to be linked to Mojela was Chiefs. It was reported by this publication earlier in the season that Amakhosi had been monitoring the player ahead of next season. The speedy winger was earmarked as a player that could possibly provide some spark to their dull attack. Sundowns were then mentioned in the equation by the player himself.

Mojela went on national radio declaring his dream of playing for Sundowns one day. The very next week, the club was rumoured to be exploring the opportunity to sign the player. Pirates on the other hand, are the club he admitted to supporting as a kid. They were then also linked to the player for the first time last week.

But all of that will now prove academic as he won’t be joining Chiefs, Pirates or Sundowns. This is because Stellenbosch have struck a swap deal with Galaxy involving Mojela and Qobolwakhe Sibande!

All beaten by Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch FC have won the race to sign Lehlogonolo Mojela in a player-plus-cash deal with TS Galaxy. His role as a false 9, in which he netted seven goals in his debut top-flight season saw interest from Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch, and Steve Barker’s side were quickest to make the move. iDiski Times understands Stellies had their transfer bids accepted from Galaxy for Mojela and midfielder Thato Khiba, however, the latter failed to agree personal terms.” Wrote iDiski Times

Stellenbosch beating Chiefs, Pirates and Sundowns to Mojela can be seen as a statement of intent. With the club set for their first foray on the African continent, they will be hoping to add more quality.
