It is set to be a season of great change at Kaizer Chiefs, both on the coaching and players front.

Chiefs are set to announce a new coach who will bring his own technical team members, and make player decisions.

Chiefs are believed to be ready to undergo yet another player exodus, with the likes of Sifiso Hlanti involved. This publication reported that the veteran left-back could be the first player out of the door at the club. He is likely to be joined by a whole raft of players who will see their deals expire.

Chiefs could release Njabulo Ngcobo, Siyethemba Sithebe, Edmilson Dove, Keagan Dolly as well as George Matlou and Itumeleng Khune. Additionally players like Mduduzi Mdantsane, Tebogo Potsane, Samkelo Zwane and Sabelo Radebe could be sold or loaned out. One player that was not expected to be part of that list is forward Ashley du Preez!

Portuguese clubs interested in du Preez

According to iDiski Times an unnamed Portuguese side is willing to pay R20 million to Chiefs for du Preez.

“Kaizer Chiefs forward Ashley du Preez hast attracted interest from Europe again ahead of the 2024/25 season. There’s been new interest in Portugal for the former Stellenbosch FC star, with the interested clubs willing to pay double what Chiefs secured him for in July 2022. Amakhosi forked out around R10 million to prize him away from Stellies, while Mamelodi Sundowns were also keen.” Wrote the publication.

This is interesting news because du Preez was the subject of interest from Romanian giants FCSB. Both he and right back Reeve Frosler were targets of the club, but Chiefs only sanctioned the sale of Siyabonga Ngezana. This season, again was not prolific for the speedster having only scored six goals in all competitions. With the club looking to revamp their attack, it remains to be seen if he is seen as a big part of that plan.

Will Chiefs sell?

Alternatively a new coach can come in and say du Preez will never be prolific and take the R20 million. This would then help Chiefs in the pursuit of some high profile replacements.
