Right off the back of a closely fought 1-1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns, Bidvest Wits are in action again as they take on Cape Town City at Dobsonville Stadium.

The match was initially scheduled to be played at Bidvest Stadium, but had to be moved due to the surface’s new irrigation system and heavy rainfall.

“We recently installed irrigation at the Bidvest Stadium but because of all the rain, the grass never had a chance to grow where work was done,” explained Wits COO Jonathan Schloss to KickOff.

“As a result, this has made the field very uneven, so we’ve had to change [to Dobsonville Stadium].”

Wits were technically the home team for their recent match against Sundowns, but that was played in Durban. Now, ahead of another home game, they face more unwelcome travelling.

Jan Olde Riekerink is not without his problems at Cape Town City. His side has not scored in any of their last three games, although they have tightened up defensively.

Now is a perfect time for them to put their season back on track. City have won their last five away games at Wits, and although those victories came at Bidvest Stadium, they will be looking to cause more problems for Gavin Hunt’s side in Soweto.
