The man accused of assaulting former Kaizer Chiefs legend Willard Katsande in a road rage incident last month has been brought to book.

According to the City Press the accused, Jacobus Koekemoer, appeared briefly at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on charges of common assault and malicious damage to property.

He was granted R1 000 bail with the case postponed to Wednesday, 29 September for further investigation.

The 35-year-old Zimbabwean midfielder was involved in a brutal road rage incident on 21 August.

Willard Katsande was travelling home after making his debut for new club Sekhukhune United against Chippa United at the Makhulong Stadium when he was involved in the frightening incident.

According to the police report, Koekemoer, driving a Ford EcoSport, assaulted Katsande on the corner of Hendrick Potgieter and Peter Road and broke the driver side window and mirror causing damage estimated at R50 000.

Koekemoer also allegedly showed Katsande the “middle figure” while driving.

Katsande opened a case of common assault and malicious damage to property at the Honeydew Police Station after the incident.

Despite the altercation, Katsande was still able to feature for Sekhukhune United in their next match away at Maritzburg United where he came on as a substitute in a 2-0 win for his side.

Willard Katsande joined Sekhukhune United after spending a decade at Naturena where he became a house-hold name.
