Former Mamelodi Sundowns legend Roger Fetumba believes it’s time for Kaizer Chiefs to axe long-serving midfielder Willard Katsande.

Kaizer Chiefs have been well below par during the current campaign with the Amakhosi languishing in 10th position on the log standings while they’ve been knocked out of both the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup.

Gavin Hunt’s Kaizer Chiefs will have to dramatically raise their game should they wish to bring some sort of respectability to their season and Fetumba believes this starts with the side’s senior players.

Unfortunately for Gavin Hunt, his senior players aren’t coming to the party and Fetumba believes Zimbabwean midfielder Willard Katsande should face the music.

Kaizer Chiefs need to sack senior players starting with Katsande – Fetumba

“There has to be a casualty. If you talk of Kaizer Chiefs at the moment they are one of the biggest teams in the country, the most popular team in the country, and they are one of the well known South African clubs in Africa.” Roger Fetumba told Kick-Off

“And what is happening now, it’s very sad for the brand of that football club. But I’ve always believed that it is just for a moment, they will always pull themselves back together and continue to be the best team we know they are.

“So ya that is football, when in football you stop doing well you have to renew your staff, even if that means letting some people go. If you talking about Katsande, he has served Kaizer Chiefs very well. And if he has to be part of the players Kaizer Chiefs have to let go, let it be. That is football.”

Katsande joined Kaizer Chiefs in 2011 and was a key member during Stuart Baxter’s league winning sides in 2012 and 2014. The Zimbabwean midfielder also won the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup at the Amakhosi.
