Will Chiefs wait six months for this new signing?

Chiefs are apparently interested in a new midfield target from a PSL rival, but they will need to exhibit some patience in their pursuit.

Kaizer Chiefs are understood to have undertaken some intricate due diligence in planning and preparing a profile of players who they might pursue in the fast-approaching January transfer window.

According to the latest edition of Soccer Laduma, Chiefs are said to have a real interest in AmaZulu midfielder Sphesihle Maduna, who has come-of-age in recent seasons.

It’s reported that the 22-year-old’s contract will come to an end after this season, meaning Chiefs could possibly look to hook him up on a pre-contract in January.

With the transfer window opening soon, it will certainly be interesting to see who Amakhosi may look to target in order to boost a squad that showed encouraging signs of an upward trajectory just before the FIFA World Cup break.

Kaizer Chiefs’ senior team returned to training last week to start preparing for the resumption of the 2022-23 DStv Premiership programme, and coach Arthur Zwane reported a virtually clean bill of health for the entire squad.

Notably, coach Arthur Zwane has confirmed that the team will play some ‘friendlies’ before returning to league action on New Year’s Eve.

“We’ve got a few friendlies lined up and these will help with us with our fitness levels before we play that competitive match on New Year’s eve against Arrows. We hope that no one picks up any injury during the next four weeks so we are ready for that particular game,” he said.

Meanwhile, Zwane has welcomed the presence of Njabulo Blom as the team returned to training this week.

Although there have been some apparent issues between Blom’s representatives and the Chiefs management, which has led to talk that he could end up leaving Naturena, it increasingly seems like he is set to secure a new and improved contract extension at Amakhosi.

Blom and Kgaogelo Sekgota formed part of the national setup when Bafana Bafana played against Mozambique and Angola in two international friendlies during the PSL break in Nelspruit, but they are now back on domestic duty.

“Njabulo and Kgaogelo came back with the rest of the team. They look sharp and will continue their preparations with the squad for the next encounter. We are also happy Blom has recovered after missing the Carling Black Label Cup match,” commented Zwane.

CHIEFS ARE CURRENTLY FOURTH ON THE PSL LOG

Amakhosi fans will certainly love the sight of their team back in training, and notably Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana has been seen in action, while Itumeleng Khune is also believed to have recovered from injury.

Zwane says his team looks good because they gave all the players programmes after the last competitive match to ensure they maintain some level of fitness during the break.

“We welcomed all the guys back on Thursday morning and they looked sharp. We are very happy with what we saw at training,” coach Arthur Zwane enthused.

When quizzed about injuries the Kaizer Chiefs mentor said: “There are no injuries to report except for a bout of flu that has attacked Phathutshedzo Nange and Kgaogelo Sekgota. They will receive the necessary treatment from the medical team and I’m sure they will start training next new week with the team.”

Finally, check out some of the latest images as Chiefs made a return to training in preparation for the resumption of the league season.

The DStv Premiership has been on a mid-season break as the FIFA World Cup has been playing out in Qatar, but local league action will soon get back under way. As it stands, Sundowns, Richards Bay, SuperSport United, Chiefs and Pirates occupy the top five spots on the league log.
