Erasmus spent his most successful period of professional at Pirates, scoring 17 goals in 65 appearance for the Ghosts over three years.

Erasmus was successful at Pirates

That spell was so successful that Erasmus eventually earned himself a move abroad again, having already played for various clubs in the Netherlands. This time his good form would see Pirates strike a deal with French Ligue 1 outfit Rennes for the services of the Gqeberha native.

Erasmus failed to replicate his form from Pirates at the Rennes, making just 10 appearances and failing to score in two years at the club. He did not fare much better when he was loaned out to fellow French club Lens either, scoring just the solitary goal in 12 appearances for the team.  After one more unsuccessful year abroad in both Sweden and Portugal, the Bafana Bafana international would return to South Africa in 2018, signing for Cape Town City. After scoring 15 goals in 35 appearances for the club, Erasmus again earned himself a high profile move, this time seeing his signature snapped up by Sundowns.

Fallen out of favour at Sundowns

After a promising start to his career at Sundowns, which included scoring on his debut against Kaizer Chiefs. He has now found himself further down the pecking order at the Brazilians who have a plethora of attacking options led by Peter Shalulile. That has forced Erasmus to reportedly want out of the club, with former team Pirates thought to be one of a few teams that are interested in rescuing him from his situation at Chloorkop.

Sources speaking to The Citizen, however, have dropped a bombshell with regards to Erasmus’ stance on a move to Pirates, making it seem as if he is reluctant to return to Mayfair.

Why he might not return to Buccaneers

“Pirates can afford Erasmus, but he is hesitant to make a move there because it is not really the head coach, Jose Riveiro, who is keen on having the player at Pirates, it is more of a move from the top brass. At the same time, the boy does not want to get himself in a situation where he is going to struggle for game time,” said a source of the publication, who they claim is close to the situation.
