Collins Mbesuma took the Premier League(PSL) by storm when he joined Kaizer Chiefs in 2004.

Nicknamed Ntofontofo by fans, the Zambian striker scored a record 35 goals in 33 appearances during the 2004/5 season. Under the leadership of the late Ted Dumitru, Amakhosi won the league title for the second season in a row. For his sensational season, Mbesuma was named PSL Player of the Season. His PSL debut season was the taking point, with the striker linked with various English Premier League teams.

After his exploits at Chiefs, it was no surprise when then-Portsmouth manager Alain Perrin signed the star on a three-year contract in the summer of 2005. Ntofontofo though, only made four appearances for the English side in his debut season but failed to score. He was loaned in his second season scoring seven times in 23 matches for Portuguese side Maritimo. After one season in Portugal, the former Chiefs star moved to Turkey but struggled to find his feet.

Eventually, Mbesuma returned to South Africa in 2008 looking to get his career on track. There was speculation that the big striker could rejoin Chiefs but he made a surprise switch to Mamelodi Sundowns. Ntofontofo again failed at Downs, and lasted just one season. His spell with the Brazilians was one to forget, netting just four times in 16 matches. After an unimpressive stint at Sundowns, Collins Mbesuma was unwanted by Chiefs and the star tried his luck at Moroka Swallows but the contract was terminated in 2010.

By 2010, Collins Mbesuma had played for five different teams since leaving Chiefs but failed to reach double figures or even last more than a season at one club.

Ntofontofo became the fifth player to score 100 PSL goals

The former footballer has weight issues and was accused of not contributing anything in the field of play. Eventually, he moved to Golden Arrows in the 2010/11 season where he discovered his scoring form. The old Collins Mbesuma from Chiefs was back and firing not only in the PSL but with Chipolopolo.

Ntofontofo scored 18 goals in 43 matches for Arrows before Orlando Pirates came knocking. His stay at Pirates was halted by injuries and later moved to Mpumalanga Black Aces. Just like at Arrows, Collins Mbesuma showed his quality by scoring goals regularly.

In September 2016, he became only the fifth player in the PSL era to score 100 league goals. Collins Mbesuma spent just one season at Chiefs believe it or not, scoring more than a quarter of his goals. The Zambian retired from football while playing for the Pretoria Callies in 2022. He became the club’s striker coach before he was snatched up by PSL side Sekhukhune United.
