On Thursday afternoon, Chiefs confirmed the signing of Congolese 22-year-old left-footed striker Christian Saile Basomboli, who arrives in Naturena after penning a three and half year deal with the Glamour Boys.

However, he is only expected to start training fully with his new Chiefs teammates next week, while it’s understood that his work permits also need to be sorted out first before becoming available to play.

It means there could be a waiting game of at least a few weeks before Basomboli makes his highly-anticipated Chiefs debut.

Nevertheless, the abilities of the youngster, as well as what he offers with his left-footed abilities, will certainly serve to excite Amakhosi fans. Apparently he had scored seven goals from 18 matches in the FAZ Super League this season, but he has now arrived at Chiefs, where he has already been seen in preliminary training.

The arrival of this recruit will also help boost Chiefs’ relative lack of depth in terms of strike-power, which has been exposed after a recent injury worry over Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana, who has been carrying a considerable weight of responsibility on his shoulders.

Meanwhile, Chiefs also announced the signing of a pre-contract in securing the acquisition of left-sided centre-back, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, from SuperSport United.

The highly rated international who captains Botswana’s national team has penned a four-year contract and will arrive to begin his life in Naturena in July 2023.

It’s suggested that if Chiefs are willing to pay a fee, though, he could arrive in the near future. Yet that will depend on both clubs agreeing on his early release.

Chiefs may still be fourth on the DStv Premiership table, but the club and fans are still reeling from last weekend’s shock 4-0 loss to AmaZulu that has brought focus once again on the fact that this could be another trophy-less season for Amakhosi.
