The DStv Premiership was set to resume with midweek fixtures, but these were postponed due South Africa’s run in the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast. However, all 16 DStv Premiership teams will return to action for the first time this year this weekend, with Kaizer Chiefs in action on Sunday.

Following a six-week hiatus, Amakhosi will take a trip to the capital city of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg, for a clash against Royal AM.

The KZN club, who formerly played their home matches at Chatsworth stadium, have moved to the midlands where they now make use of the Harry Gwala stadium as their home venue.

The scoreboard read 0-0 at the end of 90 minutes when Amakhosi and Royal AM locked horns earlier in the season, back in September 2023, but this time Chiefs will be desperate to secure all three points.

Currently, Chiefs lie sixth on the league table, but are 14 points adrift of log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who also have two games in hand.

Fresh start for Kaizer Chiefs

After managing to pick up 10 points, and keeping three clean sheets in their last four matches during the month before the Afcon break, Amakhosi are looking to maintain that form in the final stretch, as they aim for a CAF competition spot at the end of the season.

Coach Cavin Johnson confirmed that most of his players are battle-ready for Royal AM and keen to kick off 2024 on a positive note with a victory away from home against coach John Maduka’s boys.
