Cape Town City have officially unveiled striker Wayde Lekay as their newest signing in an effort to bolster their striking department.

As reported on The South African website earlier, Lekay joined the Citizens on Monday, and the club was expected to make an announcement sooner rather than later.

And they did just that hours after the story first broke while also confirming Lekay’s contract details with them.

According to City, the former TS Galaxy marksman has penned a three-year deal, meaning he will be their player at least until June 2025.

“We’re delighted to confirm the signing of 25y forward Wayde Lekay from TS Galaxy FC,” reads a statement.

“He pens a 3-year-deal, signing till June 2025. Welcome Wayde!”

WAYDE LEKAY GETS CAREER LIFELINE WITH CAPE TOWN CITY

This is a career lifeline for Lekay who tried his luck with three different PSL clubs following his release from TS Galaxy.

Lekay, 25, first had a trial stint with Kaizer Chiefs who decided against signing him before moving to the KwaZulu-Natal province to train with both Royal AM and Maritzburg United.

He was expected to sign with Maritzburg United but City moved swiftly and offered him a deal he couldn’t refuse.

Lekay will wear the No.19 jersey at Cape Town City, the club confirmed on Monday evening.
