NEW TWIST: Mere to leave Swallows in remarkable U-turn – REPORT

Just as Vuyo Mere was thought to have resolved a misconduct issue with Swallows, it’s now reported that he will in fact depart the club.

Mere was suspended by the club before for alleged misconduct towards the end of last year, which was expected to lead to his departure from the club, with some speculation suggesting he could retire.

However, in a recent latest development, Mere was said to be set to remain part of the Swallows setup after his disciplinary matter was finalised this month, and he was expected to soon be back at training.

In the latest twist to this story, though, FARPost states that Mere has now announced his departure from Swallows FC after two and half years with the club.

The social media post also contains a quote from Mere: “It’s sad to leave the team I gave my heart to in this manner, but that’s life. Nobody owes you anything in life. I wish the team everything of the best.”

This comes just after Swallows FC boss David Mogashoe had confirmed that the internal disagreement with the club had been resolved.

“Everything was resolved and Vuyo Mere is still part of the team,” Mogashoe told KickOff.com a few days ago.

“He will join the rest of the team when we re-open on Monday.”

Mogashoe added, Swallows had players that could be released or loaned out during the current transfer window.

“There are no movements at the moment in the team,” Mogashoe said.

“Obviously there are players that the coach might not decide to use for the remainder of the season.

“Those players could potentially go out on loan.”

Mere has been with Swallows since September 2019 and was a prominent figure last season, missing just four games as the club finished sixth in their first campaign in the DStv Premiership.

Yet, this season he has only played six games, with his last appearance was in October against Chippa United.

The relationship between Mere and Swallows then collapsed among allegations of misconduct, but now it appears all is not lost.

The 37-year-old, who was born in Bloemfontein on March 5 1984, made his pro debut at just 17-years-old for now defunct Hellenic. In 2004, he signed for Mamelodi Sundowns who later loaned him to Swallows, in 2011.
