Legendary former star Teko Modise believes players singing before matches is pointless, they should just keep quiet and go play, he said last week.

TEKO MODISE: BAFANA BAFANA SANG LOUD BEFORE PORTUGAL BEATING

So has he always felt this way or did an event make him question the culture? The former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns star, known as “Donna,” pointed to one evening in Switzerland.

Then playing his football for the national side, Modise started to doubt all singing before matches after getting struck by Portugal’s silence before a smashing performance.

The same event was when Teko Modise first met the game’s iconic superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in the flesh.

“With Bafana Bafana I played with so many countries, you know what these countries do?” Modise asked on the MacG podcast.

“I remember we played against Portugal in Switzerland, it’s k*k cold. I saw [Cristiano] Ronaldo for the first time, he was so huge.

“He is this really tall guy. It was that Portuguese team with Deco, Pepe, top, top players.

“So we were playing them. In the tunnel a lot of our guys started asking for jerseys and it pissed a lot of the Portuguese players because it was before the game started…

“So we were singing, loud! Those guys were keeping quiet and saying nothing. Normally we always say to ourselves, the more we sing, we are building confidence to go on and win the game.

“Fuck we lost and I remember saying after the game, ‘guys we must stop singing. Because really we are wasting so much energy.”

DONNA CONCLUDES SINGING IS A WASTE OF TIME

After getting well beaten by Portugal despite Bafana’s spirited singing before kick-off, Teko Modise arrived at the conclusion that it is all futile to start tunes.

“Because those guys were keeping quiet. So it depends on which country you are playing against. Brazilians will have their drums and stuff.

“But when you play your European countries, It’s quiet. Everybody is focused on the game. So for us to sing, sing and we still lose, what’s the point?

Teko Modise concluded to advise that players in South Africa must simply quit singing.

“Hayi let’s stop singing guys and just go play. Let’s just go play. Fuck this singing,” Modise concluded.
