In the last update Letsoalo was confirmed to be in Johannesburg and in talks with Chiefs, but nothing was thought to be advanced at the time.

Pirates seemed to take the lead in the race

In the previous transfer window it had begun to look as if it would, in fact, be Chiefs’ fiercest rivals Orlando Pirates who would provide the destination for Letsoalo should he leave Royal AM, en-route to Soweto. It now looks as if, the four goals that the 28-year-old has scored against the Glamour Boys have made their management sit up and take notice of the big threat that they would be letting join their rivals, who already boast a powerful strike force.

The interest from Pirates got so intense towards the end of the 2021, that a Pirates sources went as far as claiming that the club was so willing to do the deal, that they would propose a swap deal with troublemaker Gabadinho Mhango joining Royal AM, in exchange for Letsoalo. However, after Mhango had knuckled down there seems to have been a change of tune in the Bucs camp about the player, with the Malawian international now reportedly set for a contract extension at the club.

Why they may have lost interest

That, plus the return of the likes of Zakhele Lephasa and Thembinkosi Lorch, followed by the impending return of Vincent Pule, might of convinced the Pirates camp that, they are covered in that department, at least for now. On the other hand, it makes more sense for Chiefs to have an increasing interest in Letsoalo’s services, having struggled to keep the likes of Leonardo Castro and Samir Nurkovic fit throughout the season so far. Why would further fuel the club’s interest would’ve been the words of assistant coach Arthur Zwane who confirmed that, if the club moved for a player during the current window, it would be a striker.

Now according Soccer-Laduma sources, Chiefs are actively trying to secure Letsoalo’s services, but the source went as far as spelling out how difficult any such transfer could prove to be.

Chiefs latest

“Chiefs is pushing for Letsoalo, they really want him, but to get him they must pay as he still contracted to Royal AM, who still values him. Anything can still happen because the player wants to move too. It is similar to what is happening to Sithebe, Royal AM want to keep him and money is not a problem. He can only leave if he wants to. Not because they cannot match Chiefs, the only thing Amakhosi can do is give them good offer.” Said the source.

Although the deals that Chiefs are pursuing at the minute seem to be complicated, including that of Siyethemba Sithebe, Amakhosi fans can at least take encouragement from the fact that, their club are clearly being active behind the scenes. Will they pull off any of these deals this month?
