Thembinkosi Lorch suffers ‘freak accident’ at home, has surgery, back in 2022

Orlando Pirates star Thembinkosi Lorch has undergone surgery after suffering a ‘freak accident’ at home.

Orlando Pirates midfielder Thembinkosi Lorch has undergone surgery after suffering a ‘freak accident’ at home, the Soweto giants have confirmed.

Thembinkosi Lorch, 28, has been a notable absentee from the Orlando Pirates squad of late and after their 1-0 win over Swallows in the original Soweto derby this past weekend, co-coach Fadlu Davids confirmed he was out for the remainder of the year.

“Lorch, we won’t see him for the rest of the year, he’s out with a long-term injury,” Davids said.

The Buccaneers have now shed light on the incident which they described as a ‘freak accident’ he suffered at home but they failed to disclose any further details.

The injury requires surgery and will see Lorch out of action for the next three to four months – at least.

Meanwhile, Zakhele Lepasa, who’s been out since December last year, is still in the process of rehabilitation while Innocent Maela will return to training in three months.

Finally, goalkeeper Richard Ofori has been ruled out for their next match after suffering an injury while on duty with Ghana in the recent FIFA international break.

Orlando Pirates, who are currently in third place in the DStv Premiership standings – the same position in which they finished last season – will next be in action against Gavin Hunt’s Chippa United on Saturday, 18 September at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha.

Kick-off is at 15:00.
