Thembinkosi Lorch appeared in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

He had been charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after a charge was laid at the Midrand Police Station in September last year by his girlfriend.

The 27-year-old Bafana Bafana and Buccaneers midfielder was released on R2 000 bail.

The NPA confirmed that Lorch, through his legal team, had submitted representations and after consideration, a decision was taken by the Senio Public Prosecutor (SPP) to provisionally withdraw the prosecution.

The SPP instructed the South African Police Service (SAPS) to conduct further investigations.

A decision on whether to proceed with the prosecution will depend on the findings of those investigations.

Lorch has played seven matches for Bafana Bafana and has made well over 100 appearances for Orlando Pirates.
