Kaizer Chiefs will travel up North of the country to tackle Marumo Gallants on Sunday evening, but who is on their injury list?

Last week Chiefs lost in embarrassing fashion against Royal AM and what compounded that 1-4 loss was the loss of two players to injury.

It has not been a great start to the season for Chiefs, having picked up just the solitary victory, a 2-1 home win against Baroka FC, proving the only result to smile about for their fans so far. Besides that, they have drawn 0-0 away to TS Galaxy and an away loss to the DStv Premiership defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

All those results with make the result against Gallants of huge importance for coach Stuart Baxter and his Chiefs side, but who can’t the veteran British mentor call upon due to injury for this fixture?

  1. Leornardo Castro

The Colombian target man is yet to feature this season for Chiefs, and is one of the clubs long-term absentees. Not much has been revealed about what Castro’s injury is, but the initial length of time that was given for it by Baxter was 16 weeks. That was ahead of the Carling Black Label Cup. The latest update from Baxter came earlier this month and it was not promising.

“We’ve got Leo Castro who is still in Colombia,”. He can’t really do any rehabilitation yet after his operation, he’s totally immobilised at the moment so that one is way down the road” said the Chiefs coach.

2. Dumisani Zuma

Zuma is another player that is yet to feature for Chiefs this season, with a long-term injury still keeping him out. However, there have been more positive updates on him, and if signs are to be believed, he could be back soon. This was Baxter’s latest update on the player.

“We’ve got Zuma, who is jogging, so he’s in that phase of his rehab” Baxter said in simple update on the Chiefs attacker.

3. Siyabonga Ngezana

The centre back is the third long-term injury absentee on the list that hasn’t featured yet for Chiefs this season. The update from Baxter has been less than positive in terms of updates on Ngezana

however “we’ve got Siya, who is in the same phase. He had a very bad one and he’s just in the jogging pash, jogging-slash-limping, so he’s not available any time soon.” He said

4. Phathutshedzo Nange

The new signing has started every game for Chiefs since joining the club, but is set to miss the game against Gallants. That is because the midfielder suffered an adductor muscle injury on his inner thigh. The team will now await scans to determine the extent of the the injury and period of time he will be out for.

5. Kgaogelo Sekgota

The second new signing on the Chiefs injury list, Sekgota came on as a substitute in the 1-4 loss to Royal AM but soon limped off the pitch injured. It has since been confirmed by the club that he suffered an ankle injury which he has since received stitches on. The team will now await scans to determine the extent of the the injury and period of time he will be out for.

6.  Samir Nurkovic

The latest potential long-term injury for Chiefs is Serbian striker Nurkovic who the club confirmed was set to undergo knee surgery on Wednesday. This is what he had to say about his surgery: “ “I have had this injury niggling me for a while now – the medical team felt it was best to get the operation done. Further assessments will be done after the operation. The medical team will give me a timeline on the recovery process after that.” He will subsequently miss the game against Gallants
