Golden Arrows are at home to Polokwane City in their opening match of the Telkom Knockout on Saturday.

The two sides battle it out at Sugar Ray Xulu, in what’s bound to be a fierce fight for a spot in the quarterfinals.

It’s the visitors who have had the better start to the season, racing to four league victories before a bit of a lull, where they’ve experienced some indifferent form.

Rise and Shine have had a taste of cup football early in their campaign, making it to the semifinals of the MTN8 before crashing out on penalties against Highlands Park, after both legs ended goalless.

Veteran midfielder Jabulani Maluleka believes the Limpopo outfit have a chance at redemption, after what’s been a bit of a difficult period results-wise.

“I actually hope that we’ll use the Telkom Knockout as a tool of redemption. If we can manage a win at Arrows, that can see us turn the corner, I believe,” Maluleke said.

“Arrows are a tough team, but we are capable of beating any team in this league. So I foresee an entertaining affair.”

Golden Arrows, on the other hand, have only had the league to gauge their title credentials, and they seem to be neither here nor there.

Abafana Besthende have had a tough time of it in front of goal, resulting in just two wins in eight outings.

Coach Steve Komphela is desperate to see his charges convert their chances on Saturday.

“Golden Arrows plays, they must impose themselves, we build from the back, we develop to the midfield, we just lacked the finishing (against Kaizer Chiefs),” Komphela said.

“If you don’t take your own chances then you’re not going to win a match.”
