Teko Modise’s loyalty lies with Sundowns and NOT Pirates

Former Bafana Bafana star Teko Modise has revealed that his loyalty actually lies with Mamelodi Sundowns and not with Orlando Pirates.

Modise said while he has a soft spot for Pirates, his heart will always be at Chloorkop, adding that he’d tell how Sundowns would play the next even if anyone was to wake him up in the early hours of the morning.

“I will forever have a soft spot for Pirates, but for me, Sundowns is home. So, my loyalty will always lie with Sundowns. If you call me at 3AM, I can tell you right then how Sundowns would play the next day,” said Modise in an interview with Thabiso Mosia on SA FM.

Modise spent four years at Pirates, winning back-to-back Footballer of the Season awards even without lifting any major trophies with them.

And that’s correct because the Meadowlands-born legend confirmed that he doesn’t have the 2010 MTN8 gold medal when Pirates beat Moroka Swallows in the final in Durban.

At the time, Modise was still very much in the books of the Sea Robbers, but he said he can’t claim to have won the trophy if he has nothing to prove his claims.

“At Pirates, I don’t count the MTN8 title even though I was with the club. I can’t count it because I didn’t get the medal,” he added.  

“How can you claim to have won the title when you didn’t receive your medal?” asked Modise.
