TEKO MODISE’S PIRATES CHOICE OVER CHIEFS

The Soweto-born legend’s life changed forever when he signed for the mighty Buccaneers. He shared the details during a cozy chat on the MacG podcast on Thursday.

Asked why he became a Pirates player after lighting up the local game at SuperSport United, Modise said it was Mosimane’s influence and Chiefs’ disappointing efforts to sign him.

Additionally, Modise was moments away from going to Mamelodi Sundowns instead of Pirates, while his heart was yearning for his childhood club, Chiefs.

“I was ready to sign for Sundowns, but coach Pitso [then at SuperSport] called me to say ‘goto Pirates. Don’t go to Sundowns. Pirates have a lot of players but none of them play like you,'” Modise said.

“It made sense but I also wanted Chiefs. I was waiting for Chiefs. Pirates sent officials to talk to me but Chiefs sent a player to talk to me. I felt disrespected. So that’s why I joined Pirates.”
