Mamelodi Sundowns continued their DStv Premiership domination with a 2-0 win over Chippa United at Loftus Versfeld on Monday night.

The Chilli Boys showed great character, playing for 66 minutes a man down after Siphesihle Mkhize was shown a straight red card for a studs-up challenge on Thabiso Kutumela.

The Brazilians took the lead shortly before half-time when Andile Jali’s shot took a wicked deflection off Chippa United defender Sandile Mthethwa and found the bottom corner.

Mamelodi Sundowns put the result beyond doubt when substitute Teboho Mokoenas spectacular long-range strike took a slight deflection off a cowering Roscoe Pietersen to find the top corner, giving Chippa United goalkeeper Ismail Watenga no chance.

Mokoena was the biggest-name signing in the recent January transfer window when he completed his move from fellow Tshwane side SuperSport United to Chloorkop.

The win saw Mamelodi Sundowns extend their lead at the top of the standings to 17 points while Chippa United remained in 12th place.

Busy week ahead for Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns will next be in action in the CAF Champions League when they host Al Hilal of Sudan on Friday, 11 February at 18:00.

Their next DStv Premiership assignment is away against Baroka FC on Monday, 14 February at 19:30.

Meanwhile, Chippa United will need to pick themselves up ahead of their next league match at home against Royal AM on Saturday, 19 February at 15:30.
