The Mamelodi Sundowns juggernaut seems to continue rolling and causing damage season in, season out in the DStv Premiership and now they are reportedly preparing for its next phase.

Sundowns are known to be the least shy club in the country when it comes to loosening the purse strings and investing in the best playing staff possible. It now seems as if the wheels are already in motion to continue with that tradition, but it is understood that the first step before that, however, is to rid the squad of the dead weight.

Sundowns looking to offload players

There have been multiple reports that have constantly hinted that might be the club’s most immediate priority. Sundowns management seems to be in agreement that, many of the players that have helped Sundowns become a dominant force on both the local and continental scene have now reached the end of their cycle.

Veterans the highest names on the chopping block

Players like Mabunda have reportedly already been told that their contract won’t be renewed at Chloorkop, which might not necessarily come as a shock to many of the Sundowns faithful as the veteran Bafana Bafana has hardly featured for the Brazilians this season. Another player in that congested midfield that is set for an early exit from the Tshwane-based club is said to be George Maluleka.

The former Kaizer Chiefs player signed for Sundowns in the middle of last season in a pre-contract before joining this season and having very little impact. Sundowns are now thought to be willing to cut their losses on him, even though he is just one season into a four-year contract at the club.

More names who could be set for an exit from the club have now been revealed by The Citizen, a list that includes veteran left-back Tebogo Langerman centre back Bangaly Soumahoro, as well as youngsters Grant Margerman and Jody February who are management, would prefer to loan out in the interim, with a view of them being the future of the club.

Mbule remains their main transfer target

Sundowns are rumoured to be targeting the signature of Supersport United midfielder Sipho Mbule who is expected to receive an official offer from Kaizer Chiefs in the coming weeks, as their marquee signing to begin their next cycle. Will they be able to beat the Soweto giants to his signing? Watch the space.
