Swallows vacant coaching job: FIVE big names linked with the role!

Former TS Galaxy coach Owen Da Gama is reportedly the frontrunner to take over the vacant Swallows coaching job.

The Birds fired coach Brandon Truter on Sunday shortly after losing 3-1 to Kaizer Chiefs in their DStv Premiership Soweto derby match.

According to the Kickoff website, a number of other coaches have also been linked to the role.

Among them are ex-Polokwane City coach Luc Eymael and former Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund.

“Owen Da Gama is currently leading the race,” a club official said.

“Luc Eymael and Gordon Igesund have also applied.

“Muhsin Ertugral is also in the country and cannot be ruled out.

In addition, former Chippa United coach Gavin Hunt is said to be in the running too.

Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Fannie Madida is currently overseeing Swallows’ training sessions until the new coach is announced, reportedly on Thursday.

Swallows are currently 16th – and last – in the DStv Premiership log.

Under Truter, Swallows recorded one win, five draws and six defeats in their first 12 matches of the 2021/22 season.

They have scored a league-low three goals while conceding 13 for a league-worst differential of negative 10.

Some good fixture news for Swallows

The good news for Swallows is that their next three matches look ‘winnable’ – on paper at least.

Swallows will next be in action at home against 11th-placed Maritzburg United on Saturday, 4 December (15:30).

That clash will be followed by an away match against 14th-placed Baroka FC (Tuesday, 8 December at 17:00), after which Swallows will host 15th-placed Marumo Gallants on Saturday, 11 December at 15:30.
