Swallows FC and Orlando Pirates played to a 1-1 draw in the original Soweto Derby that was played at Dobsonville Stadium on Tuesday.

Pirates had a dream start as Shandu opened the scoring via a Shandu goal in as early as the third minute following pass by Fortune Makaringe.

Swallows got their first chance when Gamildien was well-placed to connect with Tebogo Langerman’s cross early on.

However, he failed to beat Siyabonga Mpontshane as the ball went wide of goal as the scoreline remained goalless.

Just after the 15th minute, Swallows won a penalty when Keletso Makgalwa was fouled inside the Pirates box.

Gamildien then stepped up to send Mpontshane the wrong way, much to the delight of the Swallows bench led by Fanie Madida.

Pitates had a chance of their own after the hour-mark when Thembinkosi Lorch and Terrence Dzvukamanja combined outside the box.

However, Dzvukamanja curled his effort wide and failed to beat Jody February for what would have been Pirates’ second of the night.

The second half was a bit slow until Langerman hit the woodwork before Kamohelo Mahlatsi’s attempted shot was cleared off the line by Paseka Mako.

Swallows were then all over Pirates as they wanted to get the lead of their own at home, and it was Langerman who had his shot saved by Mpontshane midway through the second half.

Makgalwa also saw his attempt go wide of target as Swallows looked for a winner late in the game.

Ultimately, both the Soweto outfits settled for a share of the spoils as the match ended in a 1-1 draw in Dobsonville.
