Suspended or not, PSL promotion play-offs set to get underway TODAY!

The PSL promotion/relegation play-offs are set to get underway TODAY despite South Gauteng High Court’s ruling that the games be suspended.

The PSL promotion/relegation play-offs are set to get underway TODAY despite South Gauteng High Court’s ruling that the games be suspended.

The ruling for the suspension of the play-offs was handed down on Monday night after Royal AM had appealed the judgment to crown Sekhukhune as GladAfrica Championship winners.

Acting Judge Justice Nyathi then ruled on the matter, saying Royal AM’s appeal should be treated with urgency before Saturday was penciled as the date to plead their case.

The PSL lodged an appeal of their own subsequent to that, challenging the suspension of the play-offs by Judge Justice Nyathi.

And while the PSL are set to plead their case today (Thursday), they still instructed the three teams participating in the play-offs to be ready to get the ball rolling.

The first fixture will see Chippa United welcome Richards Bay in Gqeberha on Thursday, and the Rich Boyz have landed safely in the Eastern Cape province for their encounter.

Kick-off at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium is at 15:00.

The legalities around the suspension of the play-offs are subject to interpretation but those in the know claim the PSL are well within their right to go ahead with the play-offs.

The league’s decision to schedule the Royal AM match for Sunday, 20 June could be seen as a strategy to perhaps allow the court to finalise the matter.

But chaos could erupt if the court rules in favour of Royal AM, and order the league to reinstate the Durban-based outfit as GladAfrica Championship winners.
